Sentinel

  • noun sen·ti·nel ˈsent-nəl

  • a person or thing that watches or stands as if watching.

  • a soldier stationed as a guard to challenge all comers and prevent a surprise attack:to stand sentinel.

  • to watch over or guard as a sentinel.

You are forever in the hands of the Universe. It is here to support and protect you on your journey. I have felt this for a long time and know that when things don’t go as planned, there is a reason. These Sentinels have been inside of me since childhood and I know that we all have them. They are there to remind us that we are safe and forces are here to look out for us and our loved ones. Mostly, these sentinels are here to remind you that YOU ARE LOVED.

Grounded in Earth Tones and warm, solid wood frames. Bring one into your home as a reminder that you are stardust and essential in the grand scheme of the cosmos.

The Power of Black and White

Vintage meets modern in this grouping of contemporary art quilts. Framed and ready to hang anywhere in your home. Read about each one’s inspiring story here.

Minimalism with a Pop

When it comes to art, sometimes less is more. The minimalist palette of black, white and a little red can really bring a lot of interest to your space. These pieces combine vintage hand-dyed textiles and buttons with contemporary lines and a clean finish natural maple frame . They even have a bit of industrial appeal with the use of tiny nails that add a unique presentation. They are sealed with layers of acrylic medium to protect from dust and light, while allowing the art to be enjoyed unobstructed by glass. They look great alone and in groupings.

Little Pink Houses

“Little Pink Houses” were inspired by my concerns for children around the world living through unimaginable events at what should be an innocent age. After a long hike to clear my head and get some perspective on world events, I got in my car to drive home and John Mellencamp’s Little Pink Houses came on the radio. I took it as a message spoken directly to me and used my studio to help where I could. A collection of vintage textiles and a few commercial prints were all hand-dyed in shades of pink, sky blue and green to create a palette for this series. Proceeds from these pieces will be donated to a local organization, Ginnie’s House in Newton, NJ to help children who are struggling with traumas. You can read more about the organization and its mission below.

Beachcomber Series

I became a beachcomber at an early age. Hunting for shells, stones, seaglass and the occasional shark’s tooth was a favorite activity on our family vacations at the Jersey Shore. To this day, few things delight me more than low tide and a beach scattered with seashells. I love to look at them all year round as they remind me of carefree summer beach days. These natural wonders combined with my vintage linens in shades of white are assembled on archival matboard and ready to frame in a standard 8X10 frame.

Seasons of Childhood is a collection of work that express the joyful colors of childhood and warmer seasons. It is a combination of reminiscing about running around barefoot, climbing trees, splashing in puddles and the other carefree moments of my own childhood and the experience of raising my own children and watching my grandchildren play and grow. Each piece is behind glass in a repainted, vintage frame that connects it to times gone past. The fresh paint is a renewal of the timelessness of what we loved as kids. It is ever new to each generation.

Seasons of Childhood

Here’s a video about my process for creating this series.

Mid-Century Modern

Clean lines and bold colors of mid-century décor are timeless. Like fashion, they come around from time to time and remind us of that really great vibe when modern was all the rage. The “white” space is constructed of various mid-century linens in shades of white, cream and off-white. They are tightly quilted to add texture and visual interest. The colors are primarily hand dyed cottons with a few cross weave fabrics interspersed, characteristic of that era. Framed in solid wood grey frames with a matte sheen and clean edge. The ultimate nod to the cool, mod past.

Daybreak

Every once in a while, in the early morning hours, we experience a truly spectacular sunrise. The colors, the clouds, the water or whatever is our landscape absolutely bursts forth to let us know - this is going to be a beautiful day. The underside of clouds against the blue greys of the landscape are captured in this piece. It is a reminder that the ordinary parts of our days, perhaps the grey areas, are necessary for us to notice the wonder of an illuminating sunrise. Subtle colors against lighter tints creates the feel of a remarkable daybreak.

Bridges

Using an extensive collection of hand dyed and commercial cotton batiks, this gradation piece has a series of spans or bridges. Each bridge connects to another part of the quilt and spans across an abstracted landscape. It captures from the open sunlit sky when you are atop a bridge to the depths of water that flow below. A sleeve is sewn on the back and hanging hardware is included to allow it to hang flush to the wall.

Full Moon on Deep Waters

This piece is constructed of hand dyed vintage linen, hand dyed cottons and snow dyed fabric. The snow dyeing process is done by preparing the fabric for dyeing and manipulating it on a rack system that I created in my studio. The fabric is then buried in snow and dye powders are sprinkled onto the top of the snow mound. As the snow melts, the dye bonds to the fibers and a watercolor effect appears. It cannot be predicted or repeated, which is what makes this process so exciting. Each panel of this piece measures 9.5” wide X 42” long. It has a sleeve and flat wooden slats for easy hanging.
